Subtle seas

Face-off high on Robberg cliff
Tensions rise – a lover’s tiff
Defused by the sudden sight
Below – patrols a Great White

Her body pulses green
Glistening with sunrise sheen
Gliding my fingers across her face
Her lip quivers – the surfer’s embrace.

Tranquil below
Tension above
Tuna glide in the shallows
Surfers cuss and shove

pelican
falling from the air
finds breakfast
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Holiday-makers herd along the beach
Oblivious to the humpback’s breach
And its mighty fin slaps just offshore
The observant smiles with quiet awe
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Wobbegong shark lies motionless
Carved like a marbled seafloor feature
Couldn’t really seem to care less
About my flapping about to take its picture
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Lone snorkeler
Eyes lone snapper
Prolonged mutual curiosity
Connection and reciprocity
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Caught inside my periphery
Breaking the surface of the sea
A rock on the ebbing tide?
Gone. By turtle, I’ve been spied.
