Barcelona (ES): The eyes4earth initiative was present and active at the recent IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) in Barcelona. In some ways, you could call the WCC the Olympics of conservation – it is an event which attracts around 7500 attendees and is held every four years. It brings together government representatives, inter-governmental agencies, non-governmental organisations, academics & scientists, businesses, indigenous groups and anyone else with an interest in getting a feel for the cutting-edge issues and approaches in conservation.

eyes4earth was represented at the congress with a presentation at the workshop titled “Putting Ecosystem Services on the Map” – and presented some of the innovative approaches eyes4earth is using in helping to better visualise the importance of ecosystem services (benefits from nature) to human well-being. eyes4earth also presented at the formal poster session which showcased over 60 initiatives related to the congress themes. The eyes4earth poster (see below) made it the final selection (Top 7) in terms of being meeting the judges’ criteria of originality in presentation, content and relevance of the message to IUCN’s work and visual impact. Finally, eyes4earth used the unique chance of the Congress to of course ask “The Question”. We received some inspired responses which will be posted on this page soon.
